Today felt like a really long day.

I should have known that when my cousin Jeff said that the hike we are doing was an “easy hike” – I should have actually interpreted it as “easy for him, steep hike for me“. Continue reading
Today was not at all how I expected it would go.
Let’s start at the beginning briefly – Adrian and I woke up early and packed the truck and headed to Deadman Valley.
We drove through dirty roads and passed by abandoned houses. Continue reading
My brother-in-law turned a little early, and thought he was going the right way to the beach (he wasn’t). When we got to gravel road and later potholes, he decided to commit and keep going as we can see the ocean ahead and a few cars, so “there must be something there, right?”.
Normally I would be all for it! EXCEPT: 1) We were in a mini-van 2) My parents were not into it 3) My sister was not into it 4) My 4-year old nephew was not enjoying it 5) My 1-year old nephew was not into it, but then promptly fell asleep and 6) I was more worried about the tires.
But we committed.
Today was a day full of activities!
Went to the Hamakua Macadamia Nut Company factory to get some shortbread cookies for my co-worker. These are by far my favourite shortbread cookies!
From there we went and spent time at Hakuna Bay. This, I remember being, where I filmed a time lapse of the sun setting. It’s nice to go earlier in the afternoon and spend some time in the water.
Started the 3rd day off with my little nephew, Nikolas! He loves technology as you can tell from the video.
In the afternoon we checked out a beach close to the resort we were staying at, Laaloa Bay. It was beautiful. A small beach but pretty nice! The waves were huge!
10:25am – I was out the door and in the car as my brother in law, Anthony, drove me to YVR airport. My flight was at 1:59pm, but I prefer arriving a little early to get through security and just settle and maybe grab a bite to eat.
Luckily, by having a Nexus card, I breezed through the security line-up quite easily. It took a total of maybe 7 minutes (?) Not long at all! I almost forgot my Toronto Blue Jays hat because I breezed through security so easily!
I finally made it to Elfin Lakes! My friend, Adrian, has been trying to get me to make it out there for the past year!
It was a good test for me as I started doing kickboxing at the start of this year and I wanted to improve my strength and conditioning. It’s an 11km hike (there and back), in total 22km.
